UPDATE: JULY 2008 - New commercial MC-KIT site now under construction

This present site was constructed some years ago, when the MC-KIT project was still under development. Much of the background information is still valid, and retained here at this new address of www.mc-kit.org, where in due course it will be developed as an educational and general background resource based on MC-KIT applications and user experiences. However, since in this time a commercial model has been developed, a new website is being constructed to give commercial information, at www.mc-kit.com / www.mc-kit.co.uk / www.jcemicrocomputer.co.uk .

This Site is particularly intended for those with an interest in:

Our Mission

"Empowerment for economic independence and social improvement, particularly in previously disadvantaged communities. Narrowing the technology gap between the developed and developing peoples. Providing practical solutions: Project Training - making available the equipment, tools and training in modern technology for people to create new opportunities for themselves, both for small enterprises and for young people, within their own communities".

Our Vision

"The Internet is one of the most significant tools of the new millennium, having the capability of making new ideas and information accessible to people everywhere. However, it is only part of the story. In many communities throughout the world, much work remains to be done at the basic level, such as providing housing, water, and manufactured goods. All these things depend on the use of machines, and the knowledge of how to use them. The more that people can make for themselves, the more they learn, and the greater the opportunities that arise for self-help and independence.

Our aim is to provide a starting-point for setting up new local technology industries. Firstly, by providing Project Training by means of kits, e.g. for constructing and automating machine tools, using the latest electronic and computer technology, but at a low cost and within the means of small businesses; and secondly, by using the power of the Internet to enable users to obtain information and practical guidance on the applications of this technology.

Thus, within a few years, we would expect to see the development of a world-wide network of users, licensed agents, applications engineers and instructors. Linked by the Internet, they will be able to pass on the knowledge by practical demonstration, so stimulating new initiatives within their communities. The overall aim is the transfer of appropriate technology to where it is needed - not only by using the Kit to increase local production of manufactured goods, but also by setting up local centres for the manufacture of parts of the Kit itself, with local training centres for the engineers who will facilitate this. Most importantly, these activities will not only stimulate the local economy, but will serve as an example for the young people who are the future of the community ".

Realizing the vision

A project which:

  • provides a system of electronics and microcomputer technology for low-cost automation, specifically aimed at modernizing and improving the productivity of small businesses and SMEs (Small Manufacturing Enterprises) in light engineering; see:  TECHNICAL and ECONOMIC
  • has particular application to industrially developing countries world-wide, to modernize the industrial culture and create new job opportunities for future generations; see:  PROJECT PROPOSAL
  • is the basis for educational and training programmes designed to teach computer skills and methods, both to adults working in light industry, and to students of school age.  see:  EDUCATION and TRAINING .
  • Where we are now

The MC-KITTM  project is the concept and trade-mark of JCE MicroComputer Design Ltd , a small company which has for many years provided electronics, computer and engineering expertise to industry, and has particular experience of the kind of problems we are now seeking to address with the MC-KIT.  Contact:  project@mc-kit.com     General Website (Services / Past Projects):  JCE consultancy services/projects

The MC-KIT is not just an idea. Several years work have already gone into the technical development of electronic and software units, some of which are nearing the production stage. A prototype Lathe Automation Conversion - one of the many possible applications of the Kit - is under construction. We have already started to investigate the possibilities of applying the project in particular target areas: Brazil, South Africa, Ethnic Minorities in the UK, and partnerships with other small businesses.

What is new is this Website. In order for the MC-KIT project to benefit the communities it is aimed at, it needs to be widely known and widely supported. The questions of technological, economic and social development which the MC-KIT addresses are well-known and much discussed. The MC-KIT is about turning words into actions, ideals into realities.

For this purpose, we are seeking Partners, Sponsors and Supporters who share these ideals, who can see mutual benefits in their participation, and who can provide resources to help make it happen. If you feel that your organization might fall into one of these categories, we hope you read and enjoy these pages, then contact us:  project@mc-kit.com
